BE broadband service

RJ11 plugBe have a large wholesale back-haul network which is now available to ISPs such as ourselves to offer internet connections. The service uses separate links and exchange equipment all the way from your phone line all the way to our equipment.

The costs for the Be service are very different, allowing more bandwidth for the price but having a higher monthly base cost. This can be useful for high usage customers.

The fact that we can offer BT and Be lines means we can offer a high availability service by using two (or more lines). You can arrange for traffic to be bonded over multiple lines or give one line priority over the other, etc. This gives you flexibility to use multiple types of line at the same site cost effectively.

Regrade

You can regrade your 20CN or 21CN service to a Be service if your exchange is enabled for Be. This usually involves being off line for a few minutes on the day of the re-grade. The cost is the same as a new installation.

Usage tariffs

All of our broadband services have a usage based tariff. You choose how many units per month in advance and can change from month to month if you wish. Using too little or too much is carried over to the next month within limits and using way too much means excess usage charges. The amount of usage you get for each unit depends on the time of day and what type of line you have. Only download counts, not upload. A unit is at least one gigabyte (GB) of peak download. Your usage does not have to be whole units at certain times, you can use some of a unit during the day and some in the evening, etc. Daytime usage is 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and uses units the fastest. Technical

Be lines ordered before December 20 2010 have different settings to BT. Broadband routers support a range of settings so a normal broadband router will work. The routers we ship are pre-configured to the right settings. The line settings are VPI/VCI 0/101, LLC mux, PPPoE with maximum 1,492 MTU.

Orders after December 20th will be PPPoA, and use the same settings as BT lines. The line settings are VPI/VCI 0/38, VC, PPPoA, 1,500 MTU. If migrating an AAISP line on BT to Be, then the ADSL router will not need any settings changed.
